Storing and Handling HardieFire Insulation

HardieFire insulation should be stored in an internal dry area, out of direct sunlight, and not exposed to chemicals. James Hardie products must not be installed during an electrical storm and must be installed in a dry state to a dry surface and protected from the weather during transport and storage. HardieFire insulation has not been designed to withstand prolonged direct exposure to the exterior elements. Ensure that the insulation is completely dry prior to Installation.

How to Install James Hardiefire Insulation

When placing HardieFire insulation inside the wall stud bays, ensure a minimum 5mm compression along sides is maintained. If cutting is required, please allow 5mm in addition to the required dimension to achieve the above compression.

Keep exposure to a minimum and minimize quantities kept in work areas. Avoid contact with eyes. When handling and installing Hardiefire™ insulation, to prevent irritation ensure to wear:

• Safety goggles/glasses conforming to AS/NZS 1336,

• Protective clothing such as gloves and long sleeve shirts and trousers,

• P1 or P2 respirators.

How to Cut Hardiefire Insulation

It is recommended to cut outdoors. If cutting indoors, please ensure that workspace is properly ventilated or HEPA vacuums/dust extractors are used.

1. Position cutting station so the wind will blow dust away from the user or others in the working area.

2. Use a mechanical hand saw or reciprocating saw to cut James Hardie batts

Polyester Solutions PolyBatts are specially formulated lightweight products manufactured from a blend of polyester fibres.  Polyester Solutions  Thermal  Batts and  Rolls contain a  high percentage  of recycled polyester fibres that are thermally bonded and manufactured to comply with AS/NZ 4859.1. Mass Loaded Vinyl,or NuWave Base, or just MLV, is an extra HEAVY DUTY, high performance, flexible soundproofing barrier from Thermotec Australia.

With an ultra thin profile of 4 mm (approximately) and high acoustic performance of Rw 30*, Mass Loaded Vinyl is an excellent product to soundproof walls, timber floors and ceiling spaces in residential homes & is particularly suitable for office partitions in commercial buildings.

Mass loaded Vinyl is also commonly used in a wide variety of other applications such as soundproofing cars, boats, pump housings, machinery rooms or other industrial applications.

MLV is dark grey or black in colour and Supplied in a roll.

Mass Loaded Vinyl Installation:

MLV  is very easy to cut and install. The product contains a fabric scrim with an embossed face increasing  tear resistance whilst maintaining high flexibility.

Walls / ceilings / underfloors – the product should be tacked to studs / joists using tacks with large heads or incorporating a washer to minimize tear. Gluing is also beneficial.

MLV can be glued to machinery housings, pump housings, boat or car structures to increase the mass and reduce sound transmission.

Sheets should be butted up against each other, or overlapped and taped using a a strong industrial tape.

MLV Composition:

MLV is comprised of 3 elements.

First, vinyl is employed to provide the product with a high level of flexibility for ease of use.

Second, the Vinyl is impregnated with naturally occurring Barium Sulphate, a non toxic nature and high relative density substance. It is this high relative density (mass) that gives MLV such effective soundproofing capabilities.

Finally, the vinyl and barium mixture is added to a reinforcing scrim to increase the products tensile strength
